Learning How to Skydive

At Skydive Aggieland, we train you at your own pace in a safe and friendly environment. Feel free to spend the day with us skydiving, and stay to socialize at night.

We utilize the USPA-promoted Integrated Student Program (ISP). The ISP allows students to do Tandems, Accelerated Freefall (AFF), or Static Line (IAD) skydives. Students progress through 8 categories to achieve an "A" License with USPA.

TRAINING METHODS

Tandem: Training generally takes less than 30 minutes, and depending on a number of variables, a student may spend only half a day for the training and the jump. Both the student and the instructor are attached to the same parachute system. They freefall together for 30 to 50 seconds, depending on jump altitude, typically 10,000 to 13,000 feet. They descend together under a single large parachute with dual controls. This method gives you the safest and most efficient way to begin your training.

AFF: USPA's Accelerated Freefall method of skydiving includes practical instruction on climb-out and exit of the aircraft, freefall, canopy flight, landing, and emergency procedures. This Ground School usually takes about 6 hours. The student exits the aircraft with two USPA AFF Instructors. They freefall together for 30 to 50 seconds, depending on jump altitude, typically 10,000 to 13,000 feet. The instructors maintain a grip on the student's harness to provide in-air instruction as well as assisting with stability if necessary. The student then opens the parachute by approximately 4,000 feet and pilots it to the landing area. This method requires a minimum of 3 jumps with two AFF Instructors.

IAD - Static Line (S/L): Both the IAD and static-line programs include practical instruction on climb-out and exit of the aircraft, freefall, canopy flight, landing, and emergency procedures. Assisted during climbout by the USPA IAD or Static-Line Instructor, the student exits the aircraft solo with the parachute deploying immediately. Exit and opening occur at 3,500 feet, then the student pilots the parachute to the landing area. In this method there is no freefall and your parachute will be opened automatically on exit. This method is cheaper per jump, but tends to cost more in the long run to become licensed.

Recommended Training Method

Tandem Progression: This method begins your training with tandems and then presents the ground school as a transition to AFF style jumps with two AFF instructors.
